Not the best weather to be out at Wolf Trap, but it’s the last night of the season so it’ll have to do. Good thing I got a covered seat. Ray LaMontagne and Tomberlin tonight.
Enjoying a Lost Rhino Hefeweizen infused with strawberry from the garden plot near my apartment building. Summer isn’t done quite yet.
Saying goodbye to my dog tomorrow. His health has been declining for a while and the vet and I agree it’s time to help him along.
Today he’s enjoying his favorite spot on the patio, extra treats, and as good a day as I can create for him. Thanks, buddy.
It’s hard to know what goes on in the mind of my elderly dog - much harder than when he was younger - but I’ll take sitting outside on the patio all day as a good sign. Enjoy, buddy.
Dusting off of this blog and giving it another go. Hello again.
It’s a Hüsker Dü kind of afternoon. Zen Arcade, go!
Watching an Austin City Limits rerun on stream, and the video is a full beat behind the audio. Yes, lip sync is hard, but this is one of those “can’t unsee it” things.
It’s cherry blossom season here in DC.
Listening to Sonic Youth’s Daydream Nation, one of the select few albums that I can honestly say changed the trajectory of my life. Haven’t listened in a while and it’s like dropping in on an old friend.
I like Time Machine because once it’s set up and the initial backup is done, it pretty much works and stays out of my way.
I dislike Time Machine because once I need to do a restore, finding the file is a painful ordeal that is very much in my way.
Ah, a relaxing weekend without my needy dog (who is in boarding until tomorrow.) Slept until 11. Had a leisurely brunch. Back to the apartment and… my “smart home” thermostat is acting dumb. Back to “stupid home” mode for you. No time for that today. Got a lot of nothing to do.
It is a beautiful, spring-like day outside, just in time for me to kick the cold I’ve been fighting the past few days. Sometimes things just work out.
🤧 We’re not getting the snow here in northern Virginia, but it is cold and very, very windy. Five minutes outside with the dog feels like an hour in the Arctic.
I have to work in the morning? I have no idea where this weekend went.
(This post is not about daylight savings time.)
It’s about time for that 2:00 caffeine injection. ☕️
That thing where your music player’s random shuffle lands on Riley’s In C. All 42 minutes of it. Yep, I have a strangely diverse music collection.
Super Snooze Bros.
Somebody at the Master lock company said “wouldn’t it be KEWL if we did this!” without thinking that this would happen.
Sometimes things are designed the way they are for a reason. Consider before breaking the mold.
Currently on TV: outdoor box lacrosse. Three words that I have never before used in that sequence.
RIP Wayne Shorter, one of the greatest as a performer, composer, and improviser.
Unwinding with some John Coltrane. 🎷
It’s been one of those stalemate mornings where I haven’t felt like waking up the dog to go for a walk, and he hasn’t felt like waking me, either. 🥱
As a white kid growing up in Charlottesville in the 70s and 80s, this is the sort of thing I wasn’t taught about: www.pbs.org/newshour/…
Never stop learning, even when what you learn isn’t always pleasant.
